This stunning short Huchuy Qosqo day hike is a beautiful hiking route for people looking to experience non crowded places, to see the authentic countryside of Peru. Huchuy Qosqo trek allows you to enjoy an epic scenery surrounded by breathtaking views of Vilcanota mountain range and this is combined with the great Inca site set up on the mountain slope close by Lamay.
Huchuy Qosqo (small Cusco) is located between Cusco and Sacred Valley of the Incas. This trail is been used for many centuries like the official Inca Trail by locals and nowadays is considered as one of the greatest hikes around Cusco. You will have one day of a great hiking in the wilderness of the nature, after visiting the magnificent ruins of Huchuy Qosqo, you will come back to Cusco via Sacred Valley.
The first day travelers are picked up from their hotels in a private transport and drive to the interesting village of Tauca. From here we start the hike uphill until we reach the top of the mountain and have spectacular views over the Sacred Valley. You then continue our hike downhill, passing pretty farming fields and pastures where llamas graze, enjoying all the beautiful mountain scenery. We then follow an Inca trail downward to a village of stone huts, with thatched straw on their roofs; we will go across through a beautiful canyon with our final destination of Huchuy Qosqo; arriving to the site our guide will teach us all the history of this charming place.
After having our box lunch we will walk down to Lamay (3 hours) from here we need to drive back to Cusco.
