The 2 day trip to the Uros & Taquile Islands takes you in a discovery tour to the Islands located on Lake Titicaca near Puno, Peru. Including a homestay for one night with an indigenous family on the remote island of Amantani. A very popular tour that supports the local economy and give you a chance to witness up close the local way of life. This eye-opening experience will give you the opportunity to get in touch with local Aymara and Quechua communities.
Highlights:
The tour begins at 07:45 am when we will pick you up from your hotel or from the bus terminal (07:00 – 07:30 am), and transport you to the local city port where you will be shipped to the islands by boat.
The tour duration is two days and one night, starting with a visit to the floating Uros Islands and then Amantani Island where you can watch the pre-Inca temples dedicated to the fertility of the earth (Pachamama and Pachatata).
Located 35 minutes by boat from the port of Puno, the Uros Islands comprise a group of islands mostly made of reed which is also used to make houses and boats. The inhabitants of the “Uros” are very friendly people who are cordial with visitors.
Amantani, located 36 km. from the port of Puno (three hours by boat), is an island composed of eight communities engaged in the agriculture of corn and quinoa, as well as crafts that are representative for their culture. During this afternoon, you will hike to the top of the island called Pachatata, from where you will have breathtaking views and experiment the very unique sunset with a bright colorful view.
After descending, your host family will receive you with a typical delicious dinner. You then dress up with the local costumes and enjoy a nice party with its typical local dance while being accompanied by your host family and the rest of the community.

After a delicious breakfast with your host family, you will be brought to the local harbor. From here, we will take a short boat ride to the shores of Taquile Island, where we will start to hike to the main square, observing the local people being world famous for their intricate and fascinating weavings and community work. Amongst men, it is very easy to identify who is married, single or dating a female – just by the colors of their hat! Also, you will get to know who is important on the island just by the way of what items they wear. You will have lunch in one of the community restaurants and then descend the local port to return to Puno. Arriving to Puno at 03:00 to 04:00 pm in the afternoon, we will finally transfer you to your hotel.
